It's official.
After my 4 miles at lunch today, my 4th toe on my right foot seriously has a black toenail. I noticed it on Sunday, and Colin thought I was seeing things, but it is definitely turning colors now.
I got new running shoes in January... Are they the culprit? I hope not, because I seriously love them, but I'm sure they are at least partially to blame. I suspect the other portion of the blame lies squarely on the shoes I wear to work every day, slip-on loafer style with a wedge heel. I think the heel is pushing my toes into the front of my shoe when I walk a lot in them, causing the irritation. The running miles have just put it over the edge. That's gotta be it.
And here I thought others got the black toenail on race day, pushing themselves above and beyond to reach a new personal best. I don't even have race day until this weekend, and my toenail's already black! Hopefully I can manage things and not make it too much worse.
Any tips for dealing with the black toenail???
No fun!! Does it hurt?
ReplyDeletePaint it a darker color. :)
ReplyDeleteWear it like a badge of honor!
oh, wow. thank you. today i'm going to appreciate that by not having feet i will never have to worry about this. ;)
ReplyDeletei hope it's not causing you pain and heals up in short order. as short an order as a toe nail can heal and/or grow back.
God bless.
It only hurts while wearing shoes... walking barefoot or in socks is OK. I do think it looks even worse today but is not any more painful...
ReplyDeleteMy co-worker Tony, another avid runner, said he would try to think of ways I could tape it for Saturday. Colin thinks I should wear double socks. I think the double-sock would be too much bulk and would only hurt it more. Do you think taping could work???
Try the double socks. I never had a black toenail, but I did have blisters on the ends of my toes when I was training for my marathon. I didn't even remember until I read your comment that double socks are what saved me. I got some really, really thin ankle socks to wear under my regular socks. They might have even been called sock liners.
